IBDP Internal Assessment (IA) Preparation
The IBDP Internal Assessment (IA) is essential for students aiming to succeed Diploma Programme (DP) objectives. The IA allows students to demonstrate their subject understanding and meet course objectives through practical tasks such as presentations, projects, experiments, or reports. These tasks are marked internally by school teachers instead of external IB examiners.
Each subject has a different IA weighting. In science subjects, the IA typically counts for 20% of the final grade. In contrast, subjects like Design and Technology may allocate 40% to 50% of the final score to the IA. Therefore, it’s crucial for students to know the exact weight for each subject and prepare accordingly.
Since IB students study six subjects, and languages and visual arts do not require traditional IAs, most students complete three to five IAs. Language subjects involve written assessments instead. Visual Arts students submit a “Visual Comparative Study” in slideshow form.
Internal assessments are moderated by IB examiners after being marked by teachers. A strong IA score plays an important role in predicted grades, which are often reviewed by universities during admissions. With proper IBDP Internal Assessment Preparation, students can improve their academic performance and stand out in competitive applications.
